If I could give zero stars, I’d still feel like I was being generous. We booked this pub for my grandmother’s 80th so rebooked for my mum’s 60th. There were 22 of us, all organised, pre-ordered mains, booked for 12PM you know, doing everything humanly possible to make this easy for them. We were tucked away in a back room, with other members of the public in the front bar/restaurant. From the moment we arrived, drink orders were slow. There was one brave waiter doing the job of approximately seven people, doubling as bar staff, server, and possibly the chef. A random girl wandered out occasionally, who I’m fairly sure had just escaped from the kitchen. Starters: the choice was soup or pate. Easy. Except they only had 7 soups. That was fine. Some switched to pate, until we realised two pates hadn't been brought out. When asked, the waiter informed us that they had run out of pate. On a Sunday. Before 1PM. At a pub that serves Sunday lunch every single week. I was told, “Most people don’t order starters.” Excellent. So naturally, they don’t bother stocking them. A bold business strategy. They kindly offered to pop to the shop and buy some more. Very thoughtful, except we weren’t keen on paying restaurant prices for something that was clearly going to come from aisle 5 of Tesco. Service was so slow we ended up cleaning our own plates. Getting a drink? Forget it. For the majority of the time there was no person serving at the bar, she was busy doing jobs 2, 3 and 4. Mains eventually came out two hours after we arrived. Yes. Two hours. When paying, they added other people’s drinks to our bill because apparently chaos is complimentary here. And the cherry on top? The landlady, cool as a cucumber, sat drinking a pint with her mates while the whole pub fell apart around her. Must be nice to relax while your customers sit there wondering if they’ll ever see food again. I’m sure that pint tasted extra refreshing after pocketing hundreds of pounds from us. This place has fallen off a cliff. Such a shame for what should have been a special birthday celebration. Oh, and bring a coat. I could see my breath while eating. P.S. The woman working all the jobs deserves a pay rise. She was thrown right under the bus today. Food: 4 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 3

Absolutely atrocious, staff unhelpful. Need to come back in 15 minutes to find out if they had any stock. Front of house should know what is going on. Not acceptable ruined a good evening

This is my local pub on the Lone Road as you head out of Clydach towards Craig-Cefn-Parc. It has a lovely casual atmosphere, and has everything I want in a local pub, kind people, good food and drink and a relaxed space where you can bring children and dogs. They often have live music and the six nations is always a good time to visit if you are a passionate rugby fan! My partner and I even made our decision to move to Clydach having visited it immediately after viewing our now house. It is situated on the edge of the RSPB Cwm Clydach nature reserve which is a lovely river side walk so it is perfect to combine a visit after getting out for a Sunday stroll for lunch or a pint. It is a family run pub landlady and her team are proud locals who have put their best into maintaining a traditional community pub throughout these last few difficult years. The food is the usual hearty fair that you'd hope for when you need a filling meal including a great Sunday roast but get in early or book a table to avoid disappointment! There is the main pub area, outdoor seating to the front with a childrens play area and inside there a separate dining room for those who want a quieter space and they also host personal events such as small weddings and local live music performers regularly on weekend nights. The New Inn is well worth a visit, a home from home for me and I believe a jewel in Clydach's community.
