I come here a lot because of their home style curry. Their food is beyond tasty. I highly recommend. Edit: This restaurant is being review bombed by an individual who clearly needs help. She is calling a business owned by minorities "racist" because they towed her car when she didn't even visit the restaurant despite parking in clearly labeled restaurant parking. Not only did this crazy lady park in parking for the restaurant despite not visiting it. She parked in clearly labeled disabled parking despite not being in any way disabled and not having disability plates. This restaurant is a local treasure and needs to be defended. Price per person: $20–30 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

This is the first Japanese restaurant in the US I've been to where the gyudon/beef bowl tastes like it did when I've been to Japan. Super chill atmosphere, awesome owner and staff, awesome food in general. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner

ごちそうさまでした。 I found New Zen Japanese Restaurant by accident, as I was looking for a place to buy some sushi for an allergy test on a Sunday evening. After doing a Google search, it was the only sushi restaurant open in the area. When I got to the restaurant, I was looking to just pick up a few different kinds of sushi. I was a bit hesitant to order because it was about 6:30pm and there was only one couple in the restaurant. I ordered some カキフライ(deep fried panko coated oysters), 帆立 (scallop), and マグロ (tuna) to go. But after looking over the menu, I decided to take a chance on their tonkatsu (pork cutlet). More on tonkatsu later. After receiving and paying for my order, I went home and put the sushi in the refrigerator and opened the tonkatsu. The first thing I noticed was that the portion size was quite generous. I took my first bite and all my expectations were exceeded. The tonkatsu was tender and juicy, the way Japanese tonkatsu should be. The カキフライwas also cooked perfectly. It was crispy on the outside and the inside just melted in your mouth. Writing about it is making my mouth water. With the vast Japanese community in the Seattle area, you would expect to find numerous authentic Japanese restaurants, but unfortunately that is not the case. If you visit the other self-described “authentic” Japanese restaurants, you’ll quickly notice that the difference in the rice. These restaurants don’t even equal the quality of Japanese convenience store food (which is actually pretty darn good). In Japanese, “katsu” (勝つ) means “to win.” Prior to taking a big test or a competition, eating a “katsu” dish helps instill confidence to students that they will succeed in their endeavor. Food is like a journey. It begins with a love for cooking and a passion for creating delicious food. I appreciate the fact that New Zen Japanese Restaurant takes great pride in making all the dishes they serve. I’m already looking forward to having my next meal at New Zen.
