This was probably the worst experience I have had in a long time. I went for lunch. The doors were locked when they should have been open. The waitress simply said, we open at 12. It was after noon. One other person who was waiting left, another family of 3 went off to walk. Once in, we stated to the hostess we had a reservation. She sat us in the middle of the room. 4 other parties were seated after us near the windows. We were given the menu - soup, 4 salads and about 5 sandwiches. When thexwaitress came to take our order, we asked what the soup was. Oh, she said, we don't have soup today or the brussel sprouts and the cauliflower. We both ordered a salad - different ones. Every other table was served their lunches before us. I had to ask if it was possible the chef didn't get our order? She went to check and after a few minutes, she brought us our salads. No sorry you had to wait....Then she asked if we wanted our check. Not sure if it was a joke. We left and the hostess was at the bar and not one thank you for coming or have a nice day. It was pretty depressing. Needless to say, I won't be back. The view is gorgeous. Can't believe they run the front house the way they do. I've worked with Stephanie on two events in her upstairs dining room -- one for 20 people and one for 32. She and her staff exceeded my expectations both times and were delightful to deal with at every phase. The dining room is private with spectacular views through the glass doors. The deck is perfect for pre-dinner cocktails and the entire experience is high-end. If you need to dazzle a group, Stephanie will make you look good. My bride and I recently had dinner here and were treated to fabulous food and service. Our server, Kara was friendly and attentive. The presentation of food was as wonderful as every bite tasted. Portland, Maine has many fine restaurants. We recommend that North 43 Bistro is on the top of your list to visit!
