My kids and I were excited to try The Oakwood Restaurant because of the great reviews, but our experience was a total letdown. It took over an hour to get food for just three people, during which time the waitress spilled the drink on the table and after saying she would wipe our table, she continued to serve other people while we literally wiped our own table down. Then when the food finally did arrived 63 minutes later, every dish was ice cold. I ordered the Eggs and Brisket, which should honestly be renamed to Eggs and Jerky—the brisket tasted like it just came out of a dehydrator. Luckily they provided au juis, which can only be described as some kind of sweet watery liquid. I had to do the unspeakable and put ketchup on the brisket just to get it moist enough to swallow. My kids had the Chicken and Waffles Poutine, but calling it that feels like false advertising. There was barely any chicken or cheese—more like a vegan’s dry-fry dream than a comfort food dish. For the first time ever, they left with 90% of their poutines on the table. We might have just been unlucky, or maybe the usual cooks weren’t working, but this was easily one of the worst dining experiences we’ve ever had. Either way, those glowing reviews make me wonder if they’re written by the staff’s friends. Definitely not worth the hype. I would be grateful if you could please email me at oakcafe@mymts.net to discuss your experience further or if you prefer to have a phone call I would be more than happy to speak to you. The number is 204-475-4250 and please ask for Wendy. Again, I cannot express my apologies strong enough and I truly hope to hear further from you to find out more details. IMore

Don’t miss the brisket with gravy, mashed potatoes and cabbage. Fries are some of the best!

Great food. Affordable. Great staff. They support local. Best borscht I’ve ever had! Wish I lived closer, stop in whenever in the area to buy borscht.
