I've been putting off trying out Off Alley for a while. I could never get a reservation, it was far from my home, etc etc. However, their website said they encouraged walk ins so I spontaneously went one day. I kinda regret postponing it all this time. The menu changes at least once a week (check their insta). It's all written on a chalkboard and it reminded me of the daily specials at the French bistros in Paris. The chef is very down to earth and very passionate about sourcing the food locally. We learned about the cucumber varietals he used from the farmer's market that week and the farms that he sourced the beef tongue and squab from. The sauces are clearly slowly reduced, very concentrated and flavorful. If you want a farm to table, nose to tail seasonal restaurant without the posh uptight environment, this is it! The other benefit is that gratuity is incorporated into menu prices (thank you chef for doing this). I'll admit dish sizes for the respective prices can be a shock at first but it includes gratuity and you're supporting local farmers. It's meant to be tapas style so share multiple dishes. No regrets, we'll be back. Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5

I don’t understand why this place has such high reviews. Don’t be fooled, the food is expensive as hell. You can spend $500 here easy and still be hungry. Each plate is like 2 bites of food for $30-$50 a piece. The food was honestly not even that good imo. First was the bread and butter that I forgot to take a picture of. That was good. Mainly because it came from Columbia city bakery. Love it. 5/5 We had the herring roe sandwich. Literally half a sandwich with kelp and roe, $35-45 right there. I counted, 3 bites. Taste wise it’s so damn salty. It hurts my mouth how salty it is. Its only saving grace was the sweet brioche bun that made it a bit bearable2/5 We had the sweet shrimp dish too. That was $45 FOR THREE grill shrimp with some sauce. Shrimp was solid thoughmainly because I like shrimp generally. 5/5 We had the asparagus crab. 2 uncooked asparagus and 3 cooked with some sauce a dollop of crab. The crab sauce was over hyped. I was expecting that crab butter. There was barely any crab flavor in the sauce. Also very salty 3/5 A disappointment. We left pretty hungry because we weren’t planning to buy 10 of those dishes to fill ourselves. The bill came out to be $180. I do like that they do European style so no tip needed but you gotta have it there to be filled for even more tip right? Food: 2 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5
