Popped in today for a couple of drinks, around lunchtime. It’s a really lovely place with a nice relaxing vibe. The best thing about it by far, is the lovely ladies who work there. They were all very pleasant and couldn’t have been more friendly. The only negative was the lady who didn’t throw the plants out of the window, onto the outside tables! Will definitely return. My partner and I had Sunday lunch at Oliver’s today. We don’t normally do reviews but felt that on this occasion we had to. The food, staff and surroundings were all excellent. We’ll be back and would not hesitate to recommend it to others. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Meal type: Lunch

We visited Olive’s Bar & Kitchen in Rochester as a group of five, and unfortunately our experience was very disappointing. On arrival, we were initially told there were no tables available despite the restaurant appearing almost empty. We were then called back shortly after and seated. From the beginning, we felt rushed while trying to settle in, with staff attempting to take orders before we had even had time to get organised. During the meal, one member of staff (identified as Michelle) came across as rude and dismissive towards members of our group on several occasions. The main issue occurred at payment. There was confusion regarding a service charge, which we understood to be discretionary. When this was questioned, the interaction escalated and I was spoken to in a very aggressive manner and told to “shut up” and cursed at ( F Word) in front of the manager. The manager (Carla) was present but did not intervene in a way that resolved the situation or addressed the behaviour. Overall, the service felt unprofessional and uncomfortable. As a Black group, we also left feeling concerned about how we were treated compared to other customers, particularly given the initial seating situation. Hi Ade, we are sorry to hear you left feeling disappointed, however we do feel it is important to address some inaccuracies within your review.Your table arrived shortly before the restaurant closed to new diners, and despite this, the team still accommodated your walk-in booking and served your group in full. At no point was your group refused service.We completely accept that questions regarding bills or service charges can be raised, however the manner in which several members of your party spoke to and behaved towards our staff and management team was aggressive, intimidating and upsetting for those involved.We take accusations of racism extremely seriously and categorically reject this allegation. Oliver’s welcomes guests from all backgrounds and we are proud of both our diverse team and customer base.Following the behaviour displayed towards our staff, we do not feel Oliver’s is the right venue for your group moving forward.Kind regards,Oliver’s Bar & Kitchen
