Oscar’s Banana Bread makes your average banana bread seem very average. The first bite has real edge, baked to a deep brown, at once densely rich and deliciously pliable. Tastebuds spring to attention at first contact due to its fruity subtext. Moving from exterior to interior, this culinary wakeup call is an eye-opener. My slice, purchased at the Macleod Station café, conjured visions of the beyond and phenomena of cerebral comfort as the express train hurtled through Eaglemont, sun rising autumnally over the lackadaisical hills. A large latte (other lattes pale into insignificance) assists the experience, melding the banana bread to a soft italianate consistency, texture even, that only affirms the feeling, life is good. Granular yet firm, with flecks of secret spices, Oscar’s is a recipe handed down through the family. Can a wakeup call be a dream come true? On the evidence here, the answer is yes. Price per person: $1–20

Not only are Matt’s coffee’s exceptional he manages to get them out in record time (even when the train is fast approaching). Always appreciate the morning chats also. Great way to start the day. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
