Adelaide CBD’s long-standing Asian fusion gem – Paper Tiger Nestled on Rundle Street, Paper Tiger is a legendary Southeast Asian fusion institution beloved by locals for years. The interior boasts a retro modern Nanyang aesthetic, with olive green walls paired with herringbone timber flooring, creating an incredibly laid-back, relaxed vibe. Here’s everything we ordered on our visit: Grilled scallops Their signature grilled scallops served on warm pebbles. Coated in a house-made Nanyang yellow curry sauce with a subtle zesty lime tang, the scallops are ultra-tender and naturally sweet. An absolute must-order you cannot go wrong with. SZECHUAN BEEF TARTARE The biggest surprise of the whole meal. Marinated raw beef tenderloin with zero gamey raw flavour. Layer a spoonful over crispy prawn crackers for a brilliant East-meets-West fusion bite, incredibly creative. Singapore Chilli soft shell crab Classic Singapore chilli soft shell crab. The whole crab is deep-fried until the shell is perfectly crisp and edible, served with golden mini mantou buns. The rich house sweet-spicy sauce pairs beautifully with the steamed buns, delivering authentic bold Nanyang flavours. Nyonya Chicken Curry Claypot Nyonya chicken curry, best enjoyed with flaky crispy Indian roti. Soak the roti thoroughly in the thick curry broth for pure bliss for every curry lover. Sticky lamb rib Glazed honey lamb ribs infused with complex Southeast Asian spices. Crispy caramelised exterior, tender juicy meat inside with absolutely no mutton gaminess, incredibly addictive to nibble on. Banana blossom chicken salad Their popular new banana blossom chicken salad, the ultimate palate cleanser for a heavy feast. Crisp fresh banana blossom tossed with shredded chicken, red cabbage and tangy spicy peanut dressing. Bright sweet-sour-spicy flavours perfectly cut through the richness of curries and ribs. We ordered a range of starters for the three of us. Most of them disappointing. We also had to wave someone down to be served, was hard to get anyone to serve us. Had the popcorn cauliflower which was the best part of the night would order them again but that’s where it stopped. We also got the dumplings which just tasted like fish sauce, chicken wings which were alright but nothing special, prawn toast was oily and repeated on us all night whatever those leaves were not good. We then ordered a steak to share for mains and it was tough and chewy, not ideal for the $55. Let the server know who then gave us free dessert that was the best part of the night. The wine was also lovely. Price per person: A$80–100 Food: 1 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 4

Disappointing and overpriced. The lamb ribs were tough, chewy, and had a strange sour taste — honestly unappetizing. The chicken curry portion was ridiculously small, nothing close to what the waiter described. For the price we paid, the portion size was an absolute joke. Definitely not value for money.
