New to the area, I have been anxious to try all that Stuart has to offer. I had walked past the Pelican Cafe several times on the river walk and loved the look. I stopped with friends that were visiting from out of town at approximately 4:30 pm on a Friday. There were two tables (at most) that were seated but it took a good ten minutes for anyone to come serve us. We only wanted drinks and were more than disappointed to learn that they had NO happy hour specials. We had one beer and moved on. We decided to give it another try (also on a Friday) as I saw that a trio was playing that I thought we would enjoy. I was right- the music (Old Hippies) was great. We sat "on the beach" - it was a beautiful night! Brandon was our server -- his smile is infectious and he was attentive at all the right times. We ordered appetizers: my husband ordered a New Orleans rice (normally a side dish) as his appetizer and I ordered the conch soup. His rice was more than underwhelming- a half of a (cup) soup bowl was served and we were not sure where the New Orleans part of it was. It was just brown rice - nothing else to it. However, my conch soup was delicious: tomato based with a little spice. My husband ordered the shrimp tacos as his entree which he enjoyed immensely. I ordered and enjoyed the Greek salad with blackened shrimp. The Pelican has a great vibe! Casual and sandy (the beach) as well as pet, kid, and old folk friendly. The spot on the river is beautiful. Overall a great place to eat, drink and listen to music. On a side note: I will mention that I was disappointed with the restroom's cleanliness. The Pelican Cafe is not a large venue and it was not particularly busy the night we went- the restrooms should be clean.
