My wife and I don’t get many nights out together, and we had booked a place in central Belfast. I was chatting to a work friend that lives in a similar area to us and he recommended Pepito. We liked its predecessor Il Pirata (Pepito is owned by Neil’s Hill but they’re very different things), and whilst they’re different places altogether, We looked at the menu and cancelled town, and came to Pepito. So much easier than going into Belfast. Good decision! The staff are lovely, it’s bright and fresh, and nice and relaxed. The service was good from start to finish, not intrusive but not slow, friendly but not ott. And they knew the menu. We ordered the Grazing Board to start, which was yummy (although the EVOO thing feels a teeny bit pretentious), but that’s such a minor thing. Then for main Chicken shawarma flatbread and Orzo with chorizo, roast peppers & peas on the side, and Chicken tagine with cous cous and Frites on the side. Both were flippin’ lush. Tasty and good quality and not stupid sized portions, just right. For me there’s nothing worse than a humongous portion that just puts me off. For pud we had Tunisian orange cake with whipped cream and I had Lemon Crème with Raspberries and a warmed Madeleine. And a beer each. The bill was £75. Superb value for money, considering the setting, service and food quality. We’ll likely be back when we get our other bi-annual night out away from our kiddies. You think I’m joking. But it makes these nights out all the more special, and Pepito got it spot on. Which means a lot. This place isnt for me. The whole menu is way too bread based. Dont go here if you expect a hearty meaty meal. My dad ordered the prawns and recieved 8 miniscule prawns and I had the chicken shawarma wrap which wasnt good. The chicken looked and tasted like it was out of a packet from lidl. Cant fault the service and atmosphere though. But I have to base my 2 star review on the food as thats the main thing that matters to most diners. My curiosity had me going here as it always looked busy but I wont be returning. However if you like a lot of bread and oil then this might be the place for you. We had a gorgeous impromptu family meal here and enjoyed it immensely. The food was beautiful. We shared 5 tapas between 2 along with a childs meal (she also tried some of ours). We ended up also getting dessert as the atmosphere was so relaxed and didn't feel rushed. The staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend Pepito!
