I’m very sorry that your experience with the late checkout and hot tub detracted from what should have been a seamless and relaxing stay. Your comments are important to us, and I completely understand how disappointing this must have felt. As a small boutique lodge with a very limited number of suites, our ability to offer late checkouts can vary depending on same-day arrivals and housekeeping schedules. December through February is our busiest period, with back-to-back departures and arrivals each day. While it may sometimes appear that the property is not full, many of our guests are out exploring Rotorua during the day, and our occupancy is predominantly international, which means we need to carefully manage room readiness to ensure all arriving guests can check in comfortably from 2.00pm. As outlined in our pre-arrival communication, we always do our best to accommodate late checkout requests where possible, and when this impacts incoming guests, a modest hourly charge may apply. We regret that on this occasion we were unable to extend your checkout without a fee. We certainly appreciate that larger properties with greater capacity can sometimes offer more flexibility, and we regret that on this occasion we were unable to extend your checkout without a fee. Regarding the hot tub, as your booking was confirmed at very short notice, our team prioritised preparing your cottage as quickly as possible. In doing so, the tub was filled more rapidly than usual, which resulted in the temperature being higher than ideal on arrival. We did alert you to this at the time and apologise if it affected your enjoyment of the space. Your room rate for the stay was $1,576, and we genuinely value every guest who chooses our lodge. Our intention is never to appear inflexible, but rather to balance personalised service with the realities of operating an intimate luxury property. Thank you again for your candid feedback.
