WOW...WOW...WOW! As a business traveller I don't usually eat at the hotel restaurants as I have generally found that they are far to overpriced for the quality of the meal you receive and restaurant quite sterile and staff not really interested! Well, this wasn't the case at Platform 818! I've been on the road for the past 14 days and felt exhausted and couldn't be bothered wandering looking for something to eat, so I reluctantly decided to eat at the Mercure Sydney's Platform 818 restaurant. And man I sure glad I did....it was fantastic! I received and warm welcome hello by a very cheerful smiling Bronte(restaurant manager) Brontë took me to my table, chatting with me, left me with the menu and brought some sparkling water! I ordered the Riverina Angus Sirloin, medium rare, it came with mash potatoes that were to die for, grilled broccolini, roasted French eschalot and truffle butter and a variety of sauces! I chose Green Peppercorn, perfect! OMG, the steak was devine, melt in your mouth and cooked to perfection and super tasty! The amazing waitstaff, Eliza & Sally were warm, friendly and happy to engage in light conversation but not over bearing! This has changed my perception of hotel restaurants and I definitely will be eating at Platform 818 when I'm back in Sydney! Cheers Chris Price per person: $60–80 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

We visited as walk-in guests on a Thursday night after shopping. First impression was a decent quiet environment for dinner, but then after some interaction with the staff for ordering and recommendations, I can say the service was superb. We had the burrito and sourdough to share for entree. It was a delighted surprise with warm bread and the burrito with a tint of honey, we ate with cherry tomatoes on the side, they were quite delicious and a very palatable appetiser. Portion was quite enough for 2 people. For main, my partner and I both ordered the fait-à-maison fettuccine, a cherry tomato and a smoked chicken. They were both decent, flavour was ok, and I had to say I hadn't had pasta still served piping hot on the table for a very long time. Most restaurants, when pasta came out was only just hot or warm. This was very pleasing on a winter's night. Dessert was tiramisu with Bailey. The Bailey was just strong enough but not overtaking the espresso coffee taste, but offsetting the sweetness of the sponge. It was a wholesome meal and we thoroughly enjoyed. The ambience was worth a mention. Quiet and the tables were set apart well enough that we didn't feel our privacy being intruded. All in all, it was a very enjoyable evening with commendable service, decent reasonable wine, good food and a relaxing atmosphere. Would definitely revisit again.

We recently visited Platform 818 and had a really enjoyable experience. The atmosphere is modern yet relaxed, making it a great spot for both casual dining and catch-ups. The menu offers a good variety, and the dishes we ordered were well-presented and full of flavour. Service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive, which made the whole experience smooth and pleasant. The timing of the meals was also well managed, even during busy hours. Overall, it’s a solid venue with a nice vibe, good food, and reliable service. I’d happily return and recommend it to others looking for a quality dining option.
