We started off with a complimentary bread basket, which was absolutely delicious! There were 3 types of bread to choose from - sesame seed, poppy seed and sourdough. My favorite was the poppy seed bun - soft and light, I could literally eat a whole loaf of it!
For starters, we order the cheese soup, quail and snails. The soup was nice and thick and creamy. The portion size is a bit too large for a starter though, especially since it was quite a rich soup. The quail was good too and the couscous that it came with was fantastic! The snails were my favorite of the starters, being very soft and meaty, dripping with flavor and accompanied by a sort of mash.
Mains consisted of springbok schnitzel, grilled salmon, mushroom stroganoff, beef fillet and lamb. I found the springbok schnitzel to be a very interesting dish, and it tasted wonderful too! A pleasant surprise. The stroganoff was also good and an ideal dish if you're not that hungry or are vegetarian. The fillet as well as the lamb also got thumbs up, but personally I thought the fillets were too thick and not evenly cooked. The dish of the day was the salmon - melt in your mouth quality with a crispy skin, nicely roasted on top and served with a delicious crispy potato stick.
For dessert, we had the chocolate fondant and the Amarula mousse. Both were devine! The fondant was rich and oozed with chocolatey goodness. And the mixed berry ice cream it came with worked wonderfully to offset the sweetness of the chocolate. The Amarula mousse was not overwhelmingly sweet and the ice cream was fresh and delicious. I would highly recommend it as a lighter dessert.
Overall, fantastic experience and well worth the price!
