The newly opened Ó Súilleabháin’s, taking over from the long loved and well established Preacher’s is a lovely bar; warm, cosy and inviting. I went on a blustery winter’s day, all layered up, and within minutes of sitting I was down to my t-shirt and a light, plaid long-sleeve it was so comfortable. The lighting is particularly interesting, at least during the day, with a bright seated area by the windows at the front, tables low down, a relaxing, darkened bar-counter area, and high tables with stools and booth tables at the back; one of the booths beneath a big TV showing a very comfy looking open fire. And it worked! The bar was warm so the fake fire didn’t seem out of place. It seems Ó Súilleabháin’s has a place for everyone. My beer wasn’t the most affordable, not even by city centre standards, but it was a perfectly tasty, locally made drink. I was happy to pay as O’Suilleabhain’s is so relaxing I really spent my time with it. I spread out, at my leisure, organising all my bits and pieces I’d picked up during a day in the shops. The barman was an absolute treasure, really welcoming and happy to natter away. The clientele were friendly, and a few struck up the chats sharing stories of Prosecco brunches and day-drinking with friends. There was also the one partner who was invited along to the brunch and feeling the effects of more wine than food come 4pm! I’ve heard on the grapevine there’s plans, maybe, to start serving toasties. If they manage that it’ll be amazing! A perfect pitstop when you’ve been hectic around town, or drank too much at breakfast. Heaven forbid! I can’t wait for my next bout of shopping, finances allowing, so I can return for a quiet, peaceful pint. I’ll have to be early, though. I’d put money on this haunt getting very busy, very quickly. A great addition to the cosy pint scene of Cork Citaaay! Price per person: €1–10
