I’ve been a regular customer at this QuickChek location for nearly a year and have never experienced anything like what happened recently. I pulled up to the gas pump and showed the attendant a $20 bill before he began fueling my car. Afterward, when I handed him the bill, he told me it was counterfeit—without using a pen or scanner to verify. When I asked if he had any way of checking, he simply told me to go inside. Inside, I spoke with the cashier, David, explained the situation, and asked if the store had counterfeit detection tools. He said no and walked away without offering assistance. When I pressed further, he still refused to help. I even offered to try depositing the bill into the in-store ATM, but was told deposits weren’t accepted. At that point, I asked another employee—who identified himself as the acting manager—if there were any counterfeit scanners available. He also said no. It is extremely concerning that a company of QuickChek’s size does not equip staff with counterfeit detection tools or provide proper training on how to handle these situations. I was forced to ask three different employees for help and received no real resolution. More troubling, the attendant had already dispensed the gas before even verifying the bill. This entire experience was unprofessional, frustrating, and completely avoidable. QuickChek should strongly consider providing its employees with the proper tools and training to prevent this type of situation in the future.
