It was 6pm on New Year's Day. My aunt, uncle and I were still out and about, but unfortunately we hadn't had time to eat calmly. We started looking for a place to stop, but all the restaurants we came across were already closing. Then, by chance, we come across a place in Tricase Porto called “Grotta Matrona”. I admit that the time was inconvenient, but I never imagined what would await us. On the phone, the staff, with a certain arrogance, told us that perhaps we had the wrong number, as if it were impossible for there to be a free place. But, perhaps due to the total absence of customers at that moment, they reserved a table for three people for us. Sometimes you think not to trust reviews, but this time I should have. We arrive and the location well, if it hadn't been for the swimming pool, I would have given it a 4, at most. We enter the room, where Totò, the owner, welcomes us with a smile that had nothing reassuring about it. The environment, more than welcoming, seemed like a sauna and the air was filled with a heavy smell of frying. Totò sits us down and, in an almost apologetic tone, explains to us that this restaurant was not famous for the quality of its food... as if it were a justification for what he would serve us. They handed us a menu that looked like it hadn't been opened since 2008, it was so dated. We decide to have a mixed fry, a plate of seafood linguine and two grilled fish. The food arrives and, unfortunately, confirms every negative expectation: everything is poor, mostly frozen. The fry was a jumble of fish that looked more like a poorly preserved freezer than a freshly cooked dish. The seafood linguine, on the other hand, seemed more like a reheated dish than a freshly prepared one. The grilled fish, among other things, was practically inedible. In the end, the cost was €70, with a €5 tip included, which I find really inappropriate given the service and the quality of the food. I will never return and can only advise against it to anyone looking for a true dining experience. A real failure.
