My husband and I are non-vegans from Louisiana, so we qualify as food snobs. But we wanted to try a genuinely vegan restaurant while visiting Oakland. I can honestly say that Roasted and Raw has some of the best food of any kind we have ever had. It was delicious on the first bite. I had the black bean burger and my husband had the falafel sandwich. Both came with yucca fries. The chipotle aioli and smoked ranch sauces, which came on the side, were absolutely delicious. We also had a chocolate chip cookie. Everything was delicious, not only in terms of flavor but also in the quality of the ingredients. The buns were warm and toasty, and the tomatoes on my black bean burger were deep red and fresh. Since the portions were big, we each took half of our food home and reheated it in the oven about two days later. It was still great. Our test of any restaurant is whether we would go back. We definitely would go back to Roasted and Raw. A nice and delicious surprise. Went today with friends to celebrate a birthday of a very food conscious fried. The food was delicious, from the empanada to the delicious black bean burger, to the falafel plate (my selection; that delicious garlic dressing they serve). Other honorable mentions include the orange 'chicken' bowl. In all, everyone was thrilled with their selections and a delicious treat of chocolate chip cookies. We had about 10 guests and they were all satisfied greatly with this suprisingly delicious meal and choice of an excellent restaurant. Give up the meat and give Roasted and Raw a try, many times over.

My family is grateful for this space and the brotha's thoughtful intentions. It hurts our hearts that the business keeps being attacked by what is clearly the arm of gentrification.
