I recently visited Rotunda Bar & Lounge for afternoon tea, and unfortunately the experience was deeply disappointing. After walking in, we were greeted politely and promptly seated in what is undeniably a beautiful setting. I started off with high hopes, but those were quickly overshadowed by one poor experience after another. To begin with, we waited approximately 25–30 minutes before we were able to catch the attention of a hostess or waiter to ask if we could be helped. After a brief apology, it still took another 15 minutes for our tea to arrive, and an additional 15 minutes before the food was served. When the tea was poured, I noticed that my teacup had lipstick stains on it. The staff apologized again and took it away, but after waiting about 10 minutes with no replacement, I had to ask for a new cup myself. As for the food: The crispy confit potatoes were okay, but very bland. The olives were extremely dry and could have benefited from some kind of marinade. The savory scones looked cute but lacked any real flavor. The gougères were the worst of all, they tasted empty and felt old or stale. The sweet scones were acceptable but slightly hard. The tiramisu tart was actually quite nice, mainly because of the filling, but the tart shell itself was dry and could have been sweeter. The cheesecake was pretty good. The large cake looked impressive visually, but the buttercream was bland and the cake itself, once again, dry. We were offered complimentary champagne to make up for the mistakes, which was appreciated. However, it felt like an unpleasant final joke when a 15% service charge was still added to the bill for what was, frankly, very poor service. So if you feel like paying £126.50 for mediocre food, inconsistent service, one and a half teapots (since I never received the tea from the lipstick-stained cup), and the opportunity to take a few cute photos, then this might be the place for you. Otherwise, I would strongly advise you to avoid it. Meal type: Other Price per person: £60–70 Food: 2 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 3
