I’m writing this review posthumously as the great Ruby Inn has closed, permanently. People will often hear sentiments like this and say things like “It was just an old Chinese take out counter” or “It had gone downhill and wasn’t the same”. To this I say, nothing goes untouched by the times, but this place was still amazing. I moved from Ottawa many years ago, but would still visit almost every trip back to see friends and family. The wall paper never changed, the smell never changed, the egg rolls never changed. When I heard about the closing, I felt genuine sadness, like I’d lost a friend. I’d had their egg rolls years back, stumbled upon it again by accident when renewing my drivers license, then became a regular and never looked back. To John and Roger, the family, and every worker in the back who tirelessly made the tens of thousands of egg rolls they did a week (I asked, that’s what I was told), I say thank you. Your food made me happy. Your faces made me happy. You are more than just a takeout counter, you were friends and from the bottom of my heart, I sincerely appreciate all of you. I wish each and every one of you nothing but the best in your retirement. It is deserved! Didn’t have a good experience sorry I have to be honest. The price and the quantity of food that they serve you is ridiculous and I live 2 min from there and the food was cold . Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1
