Nice little cocktail bar down some unassuming steps giving it a ‘hidden’ feel. The vibe is quietly confident and the live music is a classy touch . The cocktails didn’t quite justify their price tag but all in all Sterling makes a good pit stop - pop down, grab a cocktail, pause for breath, recharge the batteries and then head back into the Manchester night to see where she takes you.

On a mid week evening the Sterling bar was quieter than it deserved to be - though I hesitate to complain, given it meant we secured a table with ease. This is a genuinely lovely room: wood panelled, warm and exactly the kind of cocktail haven that should be heaving on a Friday night. The atmosphere it generates, even at low capacity, suggests that on a weekend it could be one of the finest bars in Manchester. If you haven’t discovered it yet, consider trying it for yourself Price per person: £20–30 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
