Both types of chicken are good. The sauce for the caged chicken is salty while the sauce for kampong chicken is more fragrant. Enjoy the chicken with the grated ginger. Enhances the taste of the chicken. The chilli sauce is strong and spicy. Bean sprouts well prepared, cooked just right. Their braised chicken feet is good. Taste like HK-styled soy sauce chicken. Garlic rice is not bad, personally I dont like the texture of the rice. The kway teow soup is good. Clear broth. Comfort food. I also enjoy the fishballs - springy, and meat balls - firm and chewy.. Can get a bit noisy when it is crowded. There is usually a queue waiting. Reasonable waiting time, about 15-20 min, when I was there. Meal type: Lunch Price per person: RM 20–40

Simply overrated. Queue is so long, waiting about half an hour. The queue is well managed by a very attentive waiter. Chicken portion is so small for quarter chicken! Chicken too skinny? Taste is not nice. I dunno what's the problem but I am guessing the source on top. I queued long for this and the chicken is just meh... Any store around bercham can match the quality. Chicken feet is nice but cannot eat much because the marinate was too strong and easily taste fatique. I feel cheated having queued for so long. Won't come again. Visited Sam Ma Chicken Rice Restaurant in Ipoh, and it definitely lived up to its reputation as one of the most popular chicken rice spots in town. The place is always buzzing with customers, yet the entire dining experience is surprisingly smooth and efficient. The staff deserve special mention — they are friendly, attentive, and incredibly fast. Even with the large crowd, they manage the flow well and react quickly to every request. The teamwork here is impressive, and you can tell they are used to handling high volumes of customers without compromising on service quality. The environment is quite crowded due to the restaurant’s popularity, but it is still relatively comfortable. Tables are cleaned quickly, the seating arrangement is organized, and customers are constantly moving in and out. Despite the hustle and bustle, it doesn’t feel chaotic — more like a lively local eatery with strong demand. What makes Sam Ma unique is their queueing system. When lining up, you only need to write down any four digits. When your turn is near, the staff will call your number while they are cleaning a table for you. You place your order even before entering the restaurant, and by the time you sit down, the food usually arrives shortly after. This smart system keeps the queue moving very fast, even during peak hours. In terms of price, it is reasonable, especially considering the portion size and the freshness of the ingredients. The food portion matches the pricing well. As for the taste, the chicken is flavorful, tender, and juicy — definitely the highlight. The pork meatball is also surprisingly good, with a nice texture and savory taste that complements the meal perfectly. Overall, Sam Ma Chicken Rice Restaurant is a highly recommended place for anyone visiting Ipoh. The combination of tasty food, fast service, and an efficient queuing system makes it a satisfying and hassle-free dining experience. If you don’t mind crowds and want to enjoy one of Ipoh’s famous chicken rice spots, this is definitely worth a stop.
