Outstanding experience - lovely spread (ala Thali) rice wine, the atmosphere, the seating…some of my Korean colleagues were surprised to see so many non meat dishes! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Meal type: Dinner

Genuinely very disappointed with this place. From start to finish - completely dead restaurant other than 1 table, whom we were sat directly next to despite the large room filled with empty tables. First thing said to us is “you understand our menu?” An answer was not waited on, food brought out, we asked what dishes were, server instead of us answering just brought us a menu (which also wasn’t clear on what dishes were what), food was a 2/10 at best, rice burnt to a crisp, when my partner asked for a fresh one they took his away and said a new one would cost, he said doesn’t matter then, his original rice was never brought back. At one point when I asked what a dish was I was literally answered “I don’t know”. Just felt abandoned, disappointed and confused with the whole meal. Raw, unflavoured and unseasoned tofu blocks. Stale seaweed which could have been out for 12 hours. Tea which we weren’t told the flavour of. An absolute waste of money, with terrible service. I manage a Michelin guide restaurant and if I ever heard any of my staff respond “I don’t know” in the way we were spoken to I would be embarrassed. I don’t like to blame individual servers, so whoever is in charge is doing a terrible job at training and quality testing. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1

Nice temple food spot! It serves only a 3 course set meal, and it does it well! The set meal is the ONLY option on the menu, it can change according to seasons, and it was 29,000 won (no hidden prices!). I had pine needle tea, which was nice; if that's not your cup of tea (pun intended), you can order drinks (by paying extra). Located in an alley, I went through a maze of shops the wrong way and entered via the alternate entrance... I recommend you find this place via the main street in Insadong. Wait time depends on number of guests; I happened to enter when a tour group came in after me, but was seated very fast. During lunch, there's a musician playing music, really cool concept and makes it interesting as you wait for the next course. Sanchon was opened by a former monk and thus adopts Korean Buddhist cuisine; it was really cool to see him around the restaurant. One thing to highlight is that Korean Buddhism follows no-alliums veganism - that means no onions, garlic etc. Sanchon has alliums (probably to encourage Koreans to try vegan food). If you want pure Korean Buddhist cuisine, try going to Maji, or go to a Buddhist temple's restaurant This shop is near many vegan places, so while vegan food is hard to find in Seoul, Insadong has many options, don't worry! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Meal type: Lunch Price per person: ₩20,000–30,000 Vegetarian options: vegan option with alliums Dietary restrictions: Suitable for vegetarians and vegans
