In the desert, where the heat burns fierce and the lights of the Strip glitter far away, there stands Sean Patrick's. It is a good place. A true place. The kind of place where a man can smoke a fine cigar and watch the games and drink well. The walls are dark wood, rich and honest like old bourbon barrels. At Christmas they put up a tree, not because they must, but because it is right and good and reminds a man of home. The leather chairs have known many men's stories, holding them like the humidor holds its cigars – with care and without judgment. The food comes hot and true. There are eggs in the morning with potatoes cut clean and cooked brown and crisp. They serve the old Irish meals too – bangers and mash that stick to your ribs and remind you of Dublin, though Dublin is far and the desert is near. The bartenders know their work and do it well, without fuss or pretense. Twenty-four hours the doors stay open. A man can come in from the desert night or the burning day and find his peace here. The locals know it. They come with their cigars and their troubles and both burn away slowly in the evening air. The ventilation is good and clean, like mountain air, though we are far from mountains here. In the lounge, there are men who know cigars. They will help you choose one if you are honest about not knowing. There is no shame in learning. The shame would be in pretending to know and choosing poorly. The leather couches face the TVs that show the games, but a man can look away and talk if talking is what's needed. You will know if it is your place. The sign says "Cigar Lounge" and does not lie. Inside they serve truth in glasses and on plates. The walls are salmon-colored outside, like the desert sunset, with stone that was laid by men who knew their craft. There are flowers growing in the desert soil because someone cared enough to make beauty in a hard place. It is good that such a place exists, where the smoke rises and the whiskey pours amber in the glass and men can sit in leather chairs and watch the games or not watch them, and be at peace. It is a clean, well-lighted place, and in Las Vegas, that is no small thing. Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $20–30
