We were in town with friends and family and decided to do a little bar tour of the three local bars. Two of the three were great experiences, and we had a really good time. Unfortunately, this establishment was a completely different experience. There were only three other patrons in the entire bar when we arrived. We were a group of people who had specifically come out to enjoy ourselves, have some drinks, and spend money locally. Instead, we were told it would be $5 cash or $6 if paying electronically just to get in. We decided it wasn’t worth it and turned around to leave. As we were walking out, the young woman working the door made an obscene gesture toward us. I went back inside and brought it to the owner’s attention, expecting him to at least care about how his customers were being treated. His response was essentially that he didn’t care. That’s disappointing, especially for a small-town business. We weren’t looking for anything special—we were simply a group of people who wanted to support the local bars and have a good night out. Instead, the bar lost an entire group of paying customers before we even had the opportunity to order a single drink. And judging by how empty the place was, I would think keeping the customers who actually walk through the door would be important. The other two local bars treated us well and earned our business.
