I hate leaving bad reviews but do feel that I should write this one. Mixed feelings about our visit to The Spool Inn today. On the positive side, it is a really nice venue in a lovely location, and all of the staff were incredibly pleasant and helpful throughout our visit. However, the way they handle their pricing is incredibly misleading and overpriced for the quality you receive. The menu only displays a price for a 2-course set menu (for £30). We explicitly said we didn't want the set menu and just wanted a single main course each, which we were told we could do. However, there are absolutely no individual prices shown on the menu for single items. We ordered a burger and chips and a chicken Caesar salad, along with some drinks. When the bill came, we were surprised by how expensive it was at £87.50, though we weren't going to question it. However, the member of staff came back up to us on her own accord to say she had made a mistake on the bill and went to recalculate it. We were expecting a significant reduction, but she returned with a new total of £83—saving us just £4.50. It turns out that completely unlisted, they charge £25 for the burger and chips, and £20 for the Caesar salad. Charging £25 for a burger that tasted like a basic, mediocre frozen patty rather than something fresh and homemade is completely unjustifiable—especially when it's almost the price of the full 2-course set menu! £20 for a chicken Caesar salad is equally absurd. It is a lovely place for a drink because of the setting and the great service from the team, but unless they are upfront with their individual prices and seriously upgrade the food quality, I would strongly advise against eating here. Far too expensive for what it is. Price per person: £40–50

Lovely dinner this evening, the food was lovely and well presented. Service from both Kate and Holly was perfect and couldn’t have asked for more. The pub was busy with a nice atmosphere and great facilities woukd definitely go back Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Whilst looking for places to stay and places to eat, I happened upon the Sloop Inn, and being a huge lover of seafood, after seeing the menu, I booked lunch. The food was amazing. Like off the charts delicious. I wish this place wasn't almost 3 hours away from home as I would definitely be a regular if it was! Lovely, spacious accessible loo, however could really do with somewhere to hang your bag and maybe a mirror! Service was a little slow at times, but I was in no rush. If I'm ever in the area or even fairly close, I'll definitely detour to come again! Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: £50–60 Parking space: Plenty of parking Parking options: Free of charge parking lot
