I recently just hired out The Social on Main as a venue for my baby shower and I seriously couldn’t fault anything about it! The cleanliness was top tier, the staff were friendly and accommodating, the owners went above and beyond for us and we so easy to communicate with in regards to booking the venue and the finer details. Definitely would recommend the venue to everyone and loved the vibe of the place. I will definitely be rebooking for venue hire in the future. Thank you to everyone at The Social on Main for helping making our day so special! Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

On Friday evening around 11pm, my partner and I lined up to get in this venue. We had just had a few drinks at the Bay Hotel next door and wanted to finish off the night in a happy dancing manner. We had just presented our ids to the doorman and were about to enter when one of the bouncers (the one on the left in the photo) took me aside for a ‘small chat’. He then proceeded to tell me he recognised me and wanted to know if I was going to ‘behave’. This took me by surprise as we had only been to this venue once and were not involved in any incident there or anywhere else. Looking at the gentleman more closely I realised he looked vaguely familiar. It’s only later that I remembered having spoken to him in similar circumstances outside another venue in Frankston where we questioned the legitimacy of having to present ids to enter a place of entertainment. I’m 66 years old and old enough to remember a time when such request was flattering because it meant I didn’t look my age. This measure was aimed at ensuring underaged customers would not be allowed in and consume alcohol. On Friday night I felt I was singled out and refused entry for having questioned this person’s authority and he was taking his revenge. Besides the embarrassment this caused me, the obvious lack of respect that was shown to me as an older person and a rate payer on the peninsula, it also contradicts the presumption of innocence that Australian law is based upon. I feel it is also quite dangerous when insecure men are given a badge to perform a menial task and abuse that power. His general attitude indicated that he took pleasure from his action and enjoyed the backing up shown by his younger colleagues. I recognised clear signs of a mob mentality at work. I feel that as a senior member of society I was discriminated against. Is the idea to weed us out so we don’t embarrass the young ones? I am certainly going to think twice before considering attending this venue again and I think the owners of this venue should be more discerning when employing their staff. We were just intending on having a good time and spend our money. We will try to do that somewhere else from now on.
