In the waning hours of another wearying day, we come at last to South Point Tavern, a bourbon connoisseur's Shangri-La nestled snuggly behind a drug store. This, dear readers, is the real thing: a cozy shotgun-style establishment with affable barkeeps who make heartwarmingly good Manhattans. They also furnish ample bowls of pub mix gratis, though there's no other food to speak of. One is here to sip and sip not gorge, of course, so on to the main attraction. 1.5 oz pours range from predictably pricey (Dear old Pappy, you tottering overhyped fool) to so generous it makes your reviewer think twice about posting this ($15 for Stagg Jr--well, gosh, let's make it a double, guv'nor!) And for those seeking provocative repose, the men's room teems with saucy wall art (and is even semi-famous for it, a newspaper clipping adjacent to the commode informs you). So let us go, you and I, let us lounge awhile like lotus eaters in the humble splendor of South Point, simply sated by barrel proof beauties as a lost summer night finds herself falling once more over the thousand empty parking lots of Akron.
