Atmosphere was wonderful. Alexandria was my server and she was delightful. I ordered tge scallops and they were cooked perfectly. As the entree, I ordered the Filet and it couldn't have been cooked any more perfect than it was. Price per person: $60–70 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

We’ve now tried Southside Steakhouse three times, hoping each visit would be the one that changed our minds—but unfortunately, third time was not the charm. To start with the positives: the drinks are consistently good, and the staff is genuinely friendly and attentive. Service has never been the issue here. The food, however, continues to be lackluster. We started with the French onion soup, prime rib egg rolls, and the mozzarella fritti. The French onion soup was decent—probably the highlight of the appetizers. The prime rib egg roll is only enjoyable because of the sauce it’s served with; on its own, it falls flat. If you’re looking for a truly good prime rib egg roll, Mad Rose on Center Street does it far better (and the atmosphere there is leagues ahead, too). The fried mozzarella was fine flavor-wise, but both it and the egg rolls were oddly served on tiny beds of shredded cabbage—which stuck to the food and added nothing to the dish. Speaking of atmosphere, that’s another major downside. The dining room feels more like a hotel conference room than a steakhouse. With everyone seated around the perimeter with their backs to the wall, the layout feels cold and uncomfortable rather than inviting. We originally planned on ordering the wagyu ribeye, but after the underwhelming appetizers, we changed course. I had the citrus beet salad, which wasn’t bad, and my boyfriend ordered the wagyu burger medium rare. When it arrived, we cut it in half and found that only the very center had the slightest hint of pink. For a burger ordered medium rare—especially at this price point—that’s disappointing. If you want a truly good wagyu burger, take the drive to Mach’s in Pawlet instead. We finished with the crème brûlée, which was good, but not memorable or worth going out of your way for. Overall, Southside Steakhouse feels overhyped for what it delivers. With so many excellent restaurants in and around Rutland, this just isn’t where we’d recommend spending your money.
