Tender Mercy is an absolute gem in downtown Dayton and easily deserves a five-star review. The moment you walk down into the space, it feels like you have discovered a hidden, underground cocktail haven that is equal parts cozy, moody, and stylish. The atmosphere is exceptional: low lighting, thoughtful decor, and a relaxed vibe that makes it perfect for date night, catching up with friends, or a quiet solo drink. The music and energy are present without ever feeling overwhelming, so you can actually enjoy a conversation while still feeling part of a lively scene. The cocktails are truly top-notch. Each drink is crafted with care, beautifully presented, and balanced in a way that shows real skill behind the bar. The menu usually offers a mix of inventive house creations and elevated takes on classics, and the bartenders are more than happy to suggest something based on your tastes or even build a custom drink. Everything feels intentional, from the glassware to the garnishes. Service is consistently excellent. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and welcoming without being pushy. They take time to walk through the menu, explain ingredients, and make great recommendations, which really enhances the overall experience. You never feel rushed, and you are always made to feel like your visit matters. Our servers name was Maddie and she was great. Between the incredible cocktails, unique speakeasy-style setting, and warm, professional service, Tender Mercy stands out as one of the best spots in Dayton. We dined at Tender Mercy with a large party (10–12 people) and used their valet service. I want to be very clear that the valet team was incredibly kind, professional, and apologetic throughout this entire situation. Unfortunately, our vehicle was parked directly in front of the restaurant and received a ticket from DPD. When we reached out to Tender Mercy about it, their response was dismissive and frankly rude. We were essentially told it wasn’t their problem, which was disappointing considering they are the ones who contract and promote the valet service. What stood out most was the contrast in professionalism. The valet company immediately took responsibility, paid for the ticket, offered to return the tip, and even offered to speak with police since they witnessed what happened. They handled it with care and integrity. Tender Mercy, on the other hand, showed little concern for us as paying customers. When you’re spending around $70 per person, you expect a restaurant to stand behind the services they provide, especially when trust is involved. The lack of accountability was disappointing and left a bad impression. Just a heads up to others: if you use valet here, clarify exactly where your car will be parked.
