We've come here on various occasions over the years, often special occasions in which we brought in 10 or 12 people at a time. And we always enjoyed the food.
The bottom line is, don't EVER, EVER buy a gift card from these people. Yes, it says right on it that is good for a year. But things happen in life, and sometimes a year can go by before you have the chance to use it, particularly if it's for Grandma who lives out of town.
Our good friend bought a gift card for my mother in law, and we were a bit past the one year date when she was in town and ready to use the gift. So they refused to accept it.
Nice deal for Thai Peppers, as they got a free $40. Complete ripoff for both the purchaser and the recipient of the gift, because we might as well have taken the $40 and flushed it down the toilet.
Well, they got that money, but they won't ever get another penny from us, as neither I nor anyone in my family will ever go back.
Compare the attitude with KFC on Kearney, where we went after cancelling our reservation for 10 at Thai Peppers. They forgot something in our order, so they gave us half a dozen free cookies as an apology.
Update: We went and talked with the owner. Actually, we may have saved her a couple hundred dollars or so. I don't know the exact amount (and don't want to get into the whole story.) Suffice it to say, we did her a pretty major favor. (Helping her cost both my wife and myself about 45 minutes of our personal time.)
She offered us half the value that had been paid to her on the gift certificate, saying that she appreciated the help. Half. We pointed out that we had quite possibly just saved her much, much more than that. No dice.
We pointed out that due to personalities involved, the incident had created a major interpersonal situation. No sympathy.
We pointed out that she had already just lost about $150 from us from our canceled reservation for 10. No dice.
We pointed out that honoring the gift certificate wasn't going to "cost" her $40 (I put "cost" in quotes because she had already received $40 in cash) because the cost of serving us is less that the menu price (in other words, she still makes a profit). No dice.
We pointed out that we've been good customers for many years and have brought large groups in on multiple occasions. No deal.
We pointed out that she's going to lose far more by losing our business than by working with us on this. Again, no deal.
We pointed out that the customer experience here is that the customer feels ripped off. No sympathy.
So... okay. The review stands. We won't be going back.
And as for Thai Peppers gift certificates: I would NEVER buy one, under any circumstances. Because given the realities of life, you don't know that the person you give it to will get there within 365 days. You DO know that if they don't, you -\-\ and they -\-\ have lost whatever money you paid for that certificate.
