A perfect birthday lunch. The food was excellent and the surroundings extremely relaxing. The staff were very helpful and special thanks to Amy who went out of her way to make our visit a very happy experience. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: £10–20

The Bridge Inn is a beautiful pub situated in a lovely old building with a fantastic outdoor space. Unfortunately, over several visits now the service hasn't quite lived up to the venue. On our last visit, staff were rude, acting inconvenienced just for being asked for food to be served in the outdoor area specifically dedicated to dining and coming across oddly argumentative. On our latest visit, we sat in the middle patio area. There is a sign saying no food is served in the lower grass area, fine, fair enough. There was a menu on our table and we wanted just 4 portions of chips. We were told that due to a new management decision we couldn't be served food on the two or three tables in that middle patio area. We had been served food there literally 3 or 4 weeks previously and just wanted chips. We queried this and said we only wanted chips and couldn't understand why a handful of tables could be excluded when we'd eaten at them before and wanted essentially just bar snacks. The staff wouldn't budge. I'd like to be clear that in this case I absolutely do not blame the front of house staff - they're doing what they've been trained to do and both women who served us were polite and friendly. I do, however, have to question the management decision to be so adamant about not serving food to tables that used to receive food and that make up a fraction of the total table space of the restaurant. Do they not want money?! £14 for a few portions of chips served at a table right next to other restaurant tables, minimal staff effort or cleanup... With no budge at all in the staff's position, we left feeling like we'd not been heard or treated like guests, and coupled with the previous experience we have the distinct impression that despite the beauty of the spot, maybe management isn't up to the task. The food, when we've been able to receive it, has been tasty - no problems with the kitchen! Food: 4 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 3

Dear Sam,We are very sorry to hear that your recent visit to us fell short of the mark when it comes to our normal levels of service. I am at a loss to explain the comments you received, as while the Bridge is undergoing a change in management at the moment, I am holding the site currently and no such instructions regarding specific tables have been issued! Perhaps I could ask you to contact me via the pub email, detailing the time and date of your visit, so I can investigate this breakdown in communication further?
