The Fig just changed it's lunchtime menu and I just had the Chicken Tikka Flatbread It was absolutely superb. The beautiful aroma pulled me in off the street and the layering of flavours was wonderful. The food here is normally brilliant and the service is always very welcoming so we kind of take it for granted but today's lunch really was special. Big thanks to the team.

Dining at The Fig carries a lot of promise, with its vibe of superior cuisine and enviable town centre location. However, it turned out to be a little disappointing. You can only book online (there is no phone number), and a key question in the booking form is "What occasion is it?" I was booking a special dinner for our 10th wedding anniversary, so I ticked "Anniversary". On arrival we were shown to what felt like the worst table in the place, directly in front of a noisy fan which was successfully reducing the background music to a tinny rattle. We asked to move to the front area which they duly allowed. But it wasn't a good start, and clearly absolutely no heed had been paid to our anniversary status. If special occasions are asked about, the information given should be acted on. Main courses come as tapas-style dishes where you order two or three per person. The food was mainly good, with the standout being the ceviche, but the ham hock was spoiled by being drowned in mayonnaise. A restaurant of that calibre should come up with a more inventive garnish to be applied more sparingly. On a brighter note, we very much enjoyed the sunny smile and attentive service of the young Asian waitress. Service: 3

This place is exceptional It's been a long time since we've ate at a restaurant and been wowed. We had lunch first, just by chance walking past and couldn't believe the high standards. The staff were amazing and the food was yummy. We ended up booking a table for dinner. And we were NOT disappointed. Its fresh, high quality, imaginative and flavourful. The chef is pure talent and you can tell they really care. We're just sad we don't live close enough to regularly visit. Service: 5
