This is a typical “up north Wisconsin “ restaurant but it comes across as more upscale because of the menu, and the treatment by the staff. It stood out clearly that they attend to details as it relates to the personal experience. The exception, in my opinion, is that the dining area is crowded, the main traffic pattern by necessity goes right through the center and so it is common to be interrupted by traffic. Having said that, the staff stand out for a number of reasons that I give very high marks for. I appreciate especially that to a person, there were no tattoos, no strange colored hair, no provocative clothing, and an especially friendly and appreciative demeanor. They were genuinely happy that you chose them and they expressed that. The food was very good but not exceptional except that they include additional and unexpected courses such as a vegetable/cracker tray, fresh hot bread and butter, a soup and salad included with the meal price. Cocktails were made at the bar and were appropriate. I would appreciate more generous accoutrements with my cocktails, however they responded promptly and politely to my request for improvement. They were willing to substitute in meal accompaniments. I had a New York strip steak and it was good. At about $55 it seemed an appropriate value. The menu is shown in this guide. There are good options. There is a children’s menu. There were families but very small children in finer dining - I did not see. Decor is typical up north with stuffed game fish and knotty pine. The bar area is quaint but adequate. There are steps, about three. Actual wheel chair access I did not see. You may want to ask if that is needed. Price per person: $40–50 Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4 Vegetarian offerings: Not sure Vegetarian options: This is up north Wisconsin. Maybe go to Minneapolis.

We were extremely upset. We went there, the parking lot had a few cars. We wanted a good meal. We went in and were told that they could not seat us for the next week. We were dressed presentable, and we were also told that we would need a reservation whenever we wanted to go there. We were feeling like we were snubbed! I will Never suggest this place to anyone. The Guide's Inn is one of our favorite places in Boulder Junction to dine.
