I had such a great experience at The Hippo, and a big part of that was thanks to Andre, the sommelier. His knowledge of wine is truly impressive, and he has a way of explaining things that makes the whole experience feel elevated yet approachable. Every recommendation was spot on. You can tell he genuinely loves what he does. He takes the time to understand what you enjoy and guides you through the wine list in a way that makes the experience really special. I later found out he’s a Pisces, which honestly made sense — he’s very intuitive and seems incredibly in tune with people’s tastes. Andre truly makes the experience amazing. If you visit The Hippo, definitely ask for him! Price per person: $10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

This wine bar is a gem. The owner/bartender is genuinely knowledgeable and takes the time to explain reds by region, style, and profile. He does a great job of letting you taste and compare, not just describing them. As someone planning to open my own café/wine bar, I really appreciate our conversations on small businesses, wine knowledge/expertise and overall experience. Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

If you're in the area, The Hippo Wine Bar & Shop is a must! The atmosphere is lovely, the wine offerings are excellent, and Andre (the manager) is super nice. It was an absolute delight to pop in for a glass of wine to get out of the rain. Certainly didn't expect to stumble upon such a gem! Price per person: $10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
