Can’t believe I hadn’t reviewed the Hope. It’s a local institution and was my ‘local’ for several years. When in the area I still make an effort to go. Great range of beers, always something new, regularly have limited or rare releases. If you haven’t been, you’re missing out.

I supported this pub for years, from before it's come back. Used to go there as a family, fantastic place. Then one day some nerk of a barman who had only been there a year told me in a couple of weeks time my daughter, who had come with us since she was a baby, would no longer be allowed in. Apparently a couple of chav arseholes had let their kids cause trouble and then kicked off when the staff tried to deal with it. My instant reaction - ban the troublemakers. Sadly the grumpy old gits who run this place decided to ban all kids, including my well behaved daughter and all the good people who have the misfortune of being parents to young children. Are children part of the community? If they are, this is NOT a community pub. Great shame as this is the only place I used to go to. It has great character, the food is great and the staff are great. Prices are sensible. Sod paying £6 a pint in the Greyhound or the Dukes. I now drink at home. Much cheaper. Ps Roger, bless him, got my daughter a special pass to enter. We tried it a couple of times but she just doesn't feel comfortable there any more. Nice one
