I’ve honestly been thinking about writing this review for months because the experience was so ridiculous that it still bothers me, and judging by conversations I’ve had since, I know many people in Pasco probably feel the same way about this place’s security staff. For context, I’m originally from New York. I’ve been to bars and clubs all over Manhattan, Brooklyn, Long Island, Miami, Tampa, and plenty of places with actual nightlife and real crowds. I also own businesses in both Pasco and Pinellas and spend a lot of time in Florida. I understand that security has a job to do, and I fully support maintaining safety in bars. The issue is not security existing. The issue is certain guards here acting like they are above the patrons, above professionalism, and almost looking for escalation instead of preventing it. I brought my boyfriend from Long Island out one night because we wanted music, dancing, and a casual night with friends. The Kangaroo honestly reminded us of a much trashier, smaller version of a Manhattan dive club scene, but we were trying to make the best of it and enjoy the night. We walked in with three women, greeted friends, ordered drinks, and said hi to Dillon, who is genuinely one of the only reasons we ever continued going there because he was always respectful and professional. Immediately upon entry, one of the guards singled my boyfriend out. Double-checking the ID is fine. Pat-downs are fine. But the energy was aggressive from the start for absolutely no reason. There’s a certain type of security personality where instead of de-escalating situations, they provoke them because authority gives them an ego boost. Anyone who has gone out enough knows exactly what I’m talking about. Later in the night, we were standing near the DJ booth. My boyfriend leaned slightly near it and the same guard approached him again. My boyfriend basically responded with “alright bro, cool,” and instead of simply moving on and doing his job professionally, the guard took offense to his tone and flipped the drink out of his hand, spilling it all over him. That is where the entire situation escalated. At that point, emotions took over, a fight broke out, more guards jumped in, and outside things became even more chaotic once police became involved. What should have been a normal night out turned into someone getting arrested over a completely avoidable interaction that never needed to escalate in the first place. This is the real issue with certain security staff here: people cannot relax and enjoy themselves when they feel like they are constantly being watched by guards looking for confrontation. Good security lowers tension. Bad security creates it. The psychology behind nightlife security is actually very simple: when authority figures enter interactions aggressively, emotionally, or ego-first, intoxicated patrons mirror that energy back. Escalation becomes almost inevitable. The best security staff know how to remain calm, detached, observant, and emotionally intelligent even when patrons are irritated or drunk. That is literally the job. There are absolutely good employees there, and again, Dillon was always great to us, but some of the security staff seriously need better training in de-escalation, emotional regulation, and professionalism because this culture of provoking patrons and then acting shocked when situations escalate is eventually going to create bigger problems for the establishment itself. People go out to have fun, dance, and decompress. Nobody wants to spend the night feeling like they have to avoid triggering a power trip from security. A law suit is soon to ensure. Probably class action. I’m sure there’s similar stories and events. Price per person: $100+ Food: 1 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 2

I’m sorry to hear that this occurred, in any case we have made some changes in security. I do believe that the changes that have been made and the improvements will better reflect the business we run. Thank you for coming, Dillion is the best. If you would like to further discuss this, I am always available.
