EDIT: I have discussed this matter with the barista on duty and learned that the individual who engaged you is an unhoused person experiencing an untimely episode. Our barista is trained in deescalation and was attempting to defused the situation. What appeared to be “agreement” was an expression of empathy in an effort to lower the temperature. She viewed his behavior in the context of a mental episode, and was in no way agreeing with him and was indeed attempting to make the space more welcoming to our guests. We would like to invite you to return to the store at your leisure for a free coffee in the hopes of restoring your faith in our efforts to be safe and friendly to all. Unfortunately, being a downtown establishment, we are susceptible to the occasional unsolicited disturbance, though they are all dealt with safely and swiftly. It is distressing, however, to hear that a staff member made you uncomfortable, and we intend to review the matter immediately.
