Lovely pub with great food that is very good value for money. They are dog friendly too. Just around the corner from the cathedral. I recommend a visit.

When visiting Ripon for the day I found a gem pub called the Portly Pig Bottle Shop and Tap Room, which is in a building that was once a former town council and Police station. There are 3 rooms downstairs (1 is a covered yard with heaters), and 3 lounges upstairs, one with has a record player and records. The pub always had 3 changing cask ales on hand pump and a selection of changing keg craft ales. I tried a pint of Never a Dull Moment, a Citra cask ale, £4.80 a pint, brewed by the Wensleydale brewery, which I have to admit, in my humble opinion, is as good as my benchmark Citra ales, the one brewed by Oakham. There is food available, filled sandwiches, platters, pork pie etc. including for Vegans, plus the usual pub snacks (crisps, scratchings, nuts). At 5 pm (Friday night) the downstairs was starting to get full, including several 4-legged friends. Finally, the pub had won the CAMRA Harrogate and Ripon branch pub of the year 2026, and I can see why. A great pub, which has been open for about 2.5 years now. Definitely worth checking out if you are ever in Ripon. Price per person: £1–10 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
