I don’t usually leave reviews, but this campground was such a disappointment that I feel obligated to warn others. We arrived for a long-term stay and our site hadn’t even been cleaned — trash around the fire pit, broken glass near the picnic table, debris everywhere. It set the tone for everything that followed. The property is dark and poorly lit at night, and complaints to management went nowhere. Safety was a constant concern. Campsites are uneven and poorly maintained, dead trees and hanging limbs are scattered throughout, and falling branches actually damaged trucks and campers during our stay. An open trench dug behind our camper sat unfinished, unfenced, and unmarked for over two months — a serious hazard for kids, pets, or anyone walking by at night. The advertised “swim hole” turns out to be off-limits to swimmers, which sums up the gap between the marketing photos and reality. The inn, gazebo, restaurant, and bathhouse are all visibly deteriorating, and the rules seem to be made up and enforced inconsistently depending on who you are. The long-term camper community felt cliquish rather than welcoming, though a few people — including the previous owner — were genuinely kind. It’s clear from older reviews that this was once a magical, beloved place. That’s not what it is anymore. There are better, more well-maintained options in the area. Save your truck, your camper, and your peace of mind. Book somewhere else.

If you are in the area -- or even if you have to drive a little bit out of the way to get there -- treat yourself and book a room at Ellerbe Springs Resort! We stayed at Ellerbe overnight en route to our 38th wedding anniversary destination. But we were tempted to stay at Ellerbe the entire week. What a treat! Even when we arrived at the sleepy hour of 3:30am, the owner greeted and welcomed us with warm hospitality. The Inn is simultaneously quaint and majestic, is clean and organized, and is full of charm. The Victorian era decor reflects the rich and storied history of the 45-acre property. We enjoyed a casual morning stroll around the property. We walked by the gazebo-covered Ellerbe natural spring to the pond which boasts one of the very rare, "Pool Within A Pond" structures. (The swimming pool is not usable at this time but is to be renovated eventually.) There are trails, a fishing pond, a short- and long-stay campground with RV accommodations, and a family-ran farm with chickens, ducks, and goats. Our breakfast was cooked by one of the family members and included hand-diced home fries, farm fresh eggs, and a hearty portion of bacon! Cereals, juices, and an assortment of coffees were available, too. Skip the traditional, hum-drum, roadside hotel and stay at a historic, home-spun, secluded Bed & Breakfast with a mission to capture and restore a slice of nostalgic America! We travel from Columbus, Ohio to the South Carolina coast once or twice each year. This is now our #1 midway stop for rest and quiet restoration.
