Great pub in small village, decent pint after a coast walk, friendly staff and locals had a great afternoon, didn't try any food. Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: £40–50

I'm posting this review chiefly to challenge a post by "JP" in regard to a party of 9 who "dined" in the Stag Inn on Easter Sunday. Yes, complaints were made - POLITELY - about the quality of food served to SOME of our party. At least THREE plates were served COLD and the family members who received cold food felt they were entitled to ask for a reduction for those three plates and ONLY those three plates. At no point - and this is where "JP" is blatantly LYING - was "foul language EVER used. My EIGHT year old goddaughter was with us and no one in our family would ever swear in front of her. I assume "JP" is either a friend of the owner (or the owner himself) and you can dispute whether we were entitled to complain about poor food/service. But I will simply not tolerate a blatant LIE. I had been in the Stag the afternoon before and spent a perfectly pleasant couple of hours having a couple of drinks and chatting with the young barman (Oldham fan) and a couple of locals. I thought it bode well for our meal the following day. I couldn't have been more wrong. And, to be clear, when we were informed our meal would be delayed, we said fine, no problem. When we were told that the food we WANTED to order (from the Facebook menu) wasnt available, we said fine, no problem, what's on offer? We accepted what was on offer, no problem. AND THE STARTERS WERE PEEFECTLY FINE. And several of us made a point of telling the young waitress that our starters were good. The problems began with the MAIN COURSES. We received two plates that were actually meant for another table and couldn't be taken to them. So, two out of a party of nine were expected to dine ahead of other family members. AGAIN, we said fine, no problem. Unfortunately, the mashed potatoes were cold, as were the bowls of vegetables which accompanied them. THEN, when other plates arrived, SOME of them WERE cold and were not touched after a few mouthfuls ONLY. My niece took photos of these plates and I'll be only too happy to post these pics to support this complaint. So, to reiterate, our party was asking for refunds ONLY for those plates of food that were served cold. (I happily paid full price for my food as it was served to me hot). There was only one person cooking food on Easter Sunday (the owner) and it seems to me that serving NINE simultaneously hot meals was beyond his capabilities. Ordinarily, I chalk off incidents like this to experience. I've had bad meals before (who hasn't?) Usually I just say, well, I won't be eating there again. But to have someone openly LIE is beyond the pale. NO ONE IN OUR PARTY SWORE TO THE STAFF OR THE OBNOXIOUS OWNER. And I would advise anyone to avoid an establishment that would resort to such mendacity rather than admit its food and service were below par. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1
