I knew I didn’t want to cook tonight, so I jumped on Resy to see what might have an open reservation. That’s how we ended up at a place I’d somehow never heard of. And honestly, that’s usually a good sign. Enter The Walk-In. The place has this interesting mix going on. It feels Southern when you walk in - relaxed, comfortable, a little quirky - but the food leans Asian in ways that make the menu fun to poke around. So we what we usually do when we’re somewhere new. We ordered a handful of things and figured we’d sort it out when it hit the table. The black garlic deviled eggs were the first thing out. Just two halves, but really interesting. Salty in a good way with soy sauce, bonito, green onions, and sesame. Familiar, but not something you see every day. The crab rangoon was excellent. Crispy and hot with a mango sweet and sour sauce that worked really well. The kung pao bao buns were great too. Crispy chicken, crushed peanuts, soft buns. Good stuff. We also tried the bulgogi grilled cheese, which comes as four little pull-apart Hawaiian roll sliders with beef tenderloin, kimchi, and mozzarella. Sweet rolls, savory beef, a little tang from the kimchi. A fun combination. And because I’m me, we added the burger too. Patty melt style with house chips. Cooked perfectly. Somewhere in the middle of all that I realized I was eating tater tots with chopsticks. Which felt like a pretty good summary of the whole experience. They’ve got a patio outside and a shelf full of board games. I spotted Sorry and that was the end of that. And I’m proud to report I ended the night with a victory. Super fun little place. Quiet. Quirky. The kind of spot you’re happy you stumble into. Some nights you just get lucky. Price per person: $10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
