Tras disfrutar de Piccadilly Circus, es una buena idea visitar este restaurante. Los platos de su cocina indonesia están muy bien elaborados en Toba. Este lugar sirve un casero buey, un perfectamente elaborado rendang de ternera y un tierno lomo de bacalao. Pide sus generosas tortitas, su sorprendente helado y sus singulares dulces de coco. No tendrás una experiencia completa sin unas margaritas, que aquí son sensacionales. Degusta su espectacular té.

I was recommended this restaurant by a chef from a place I previously reviewed for authentic Indonesian food in London. I can say I was not disappointed but I will preface that I wished I went more out of my comfort zone in terms of food choices. The rendang was perfect. A thick aromatic coconut-y dry curry with a strong depth of other spices and flavours. Then paired with the super tender beef it really was a treat especially when some cuts were lean and some were fatty it really made it more of an experience. The sate had a very distinct grill flavour which came through in both the sauce and the skewers itself which was pleasant. I just wished the peanut sauce was a little more prominent on the skewers itself. However the rice I did get was relatively hard in a few bites and I didn’t really taste the difference in this rice compared to just an ordinary rice bowl unfortunately. I did arrive near closing time on a Tuesday I must preface at least. Also the staff were super nice and generous. They even took the rice out of my bill after just merely mentioning it so I do think it was just an unfortunate mishap. Finding authentic flavors in London can be hit or miss, but Toba absolutely nailed it. The ambience is incredibly cozy and has a beautifully upscale, sophisticated feel to it. I ordered the gulai kambing, mie tek tek jawa, and perkedel tahu, and the food was exceptional. I honestly don't know whether it's because I'm in London and heavily missing Indonesian food, or if it's just the brilliant way they elevate Indonesian cooking into a high class culinary experience, probably a mix of both! The standout for me was definitely the gulai kambing. It is genuinely the best gulai kambing I have ever eaten in my life, and I never thought I would find it this far away from home. If there is one minor catch, I think it's the service, the manager (I guess?), while he's still very professional, but it's just lacks that signature, heartfelt warmth you naturally get from people back in Indonesia, even tho he's also Indonesian lol. We've booked a table on Good Friday and there's still quite a lot of space there. The food is quite good. We've had beef rendang (taste so good that I've forgot to take a picture), curry, satay chicken. The beef is tender which makes it taste fantastic. Curry is mild but it's expected since it's coconut curry, pairs nice with the turmeric rice. The satay sauce is very good. The server accidentally ordered us an egg (side dish) but it's a pleasant surprise since the egg turns out not bad but I wouldn't pay £6 for it. The banana pancake is a highlight.
