My husband and I have eaten at Michelin star restaurants all over the world (not a flex, just trying to give some background) and this was by far the best dining experience we had while on our four city holiday in Japan. We ate at a famous Kyoto three Michelin star restaurant a few days before visiting Tozentei that did not even remotely compare to this lovely restaurant. The food at Tozentei was fantastic, fresh, interesting, and satiating. The service was warm, quick, and genuine. If you are in Kyoto, do not miss an opportunity to eat here. Skip the other highly rated restaurants! Thank you so much for a beautiful meal, and lovely conversation. We don’t speak Japanese, and their English is limited, but that didn’t stop us from talking about the food, the weather, and about our travels. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

The evening was a complete gastronomical delight. Masatoshi San and his family were such great hosts. From sharing the nuances of how each dish is sourced with ingredients to how to savor the delightful meals. We were not the Michelin assessors but can totally see why this family run home continues to make waves. Meal type: Dinner Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

My husband and I will cherish our dinner at Tozentei. It was a very special experience for us. I will recommend it to anyone I meet who is traveling to Kyoto. The family was so gracious and warm.
