Because we had tickets for an 8:00 performance at the Rose Theatre, I made a reservation for dinner for 5 people at 5:45, allowing ample time to have a relaxed meal and be at the theatre with plenty of time to spare. I had never been to this restaurant before, but were hoping it would be a pleasant experience.
When we arrived at 5:45 we were the first and only table seated in the restaurant. There was an unpleasant, sour odour in the restaurant. I believe the floors and tables were wiped with a dirty mop or cloth. Not a good start.
The server approached us and took drink orders and then food orders in a reasonable amount of time, at approximately 6:15. By then there were about 5 tables occupied and 2 servers attending to them. The appetizer salads seemed to take quite some time to arrive but did eventually come at about 6:45.
Then we waited and waited and waited and waited for our main courses to be served. We saw other patrons, who were seated after us, get their meals. It was now about 7:15 and we were getting anxious about the time. One member of our party approached the server and let her know were were concerned we would not be on time for the 8:00 show. The server responded that it would be OK as we had already had our main courses, which we had not. She then checked the kitchen and told us they were being plated so we continued to wait.
At 7:30 we again asked where our meals were and again were told they were coming. We said if they didn’t come soon we would have to leave without them. At 7:40 we told the server that we were leaving. After we stood up to leave, he said the meals were ready. We left at this point, paying for the wine and side salads we had already consumed. Without the bill we had asked for, we had to estimate the amount. We then went to the theatre with no dinner.
To sum up, we were in the restaurant for almost 2 hours and there were only 6 tables occupied with 2 staff member on the floor. At no time was there any sense of urgency or concern about our situation. Both servers shrugged and said they didn’t know what had happened. We were offered no apology, just indifference. There was no offer made to comp our order or to make any other type of compensation for the inconvenience.
I love to find good local businesses to support but sadly, based on our experience, would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
