Uno Morato is a bar and independent bookstore committed to creating a space where people can enjoy and celebrate local creative work in all of its diverse forms. Uno Morato sets you right in the middle of a local arts and literature scene that is very much alive and kicking, constantly abuzz with events like poetry readings, film showings, songwriting workshops, and even casual conversations with fellow artists or friends. Last Christmas I bought "Dark Hours" by Conchitina Cruz here, but not before taking forever to decide what I was going to buy and fighting the urge all the while to clear away an entire shelf of books. In the end, I managed to limit myself to a poetry book and a few cute bookmarks as gifts for my friends. There's something irresistibly tempting about the varied selections of books and trinkets lined up on the shelves at Uno Morato, something about encountering other people with the same creative energy as you that makes you want to stay longer, read one more book, soak it in. It seems a sin to simply buy something and then leave right after, and why would you?
