Visited twice and both times were a delight! Each dish is a work of art and extremely delicious, I got to eat foods that I've never tried before. The service is very friendly and attentive, the owners chatted with me despite my limited Japanese. I look forward to visiting again! I stumbled across this restaurant on my first night in Tokyo and it was a lovely dinner that made me try new things for the first time like horse and and soft-shell turtle. As I was told by the waiter and another customer this restaurant specialises in preparing its meals over a charcoal grill which imbues the food with a smoke flavour that complements each dish. I had the Omakase Set menu that chef sets and with the help of the waiter and my Japanese visual dictionary I was able to enjoy each dish with a great appreciation. The chef's approach to each dish was amazing to see and I loved that he used locally and seasonally sourced ingredients. The set menu included dishes that included eel with sour leaves, kohlrabi and citrus sauce, soft-shell turtle with charcoaled greens with a bitter green sauce, a fat herring in iso sauce (vegetable based) with sea urchin and the final dish was horse with Ayu fish deep fried that was grilled and tossed in rice and seaweed. What made the meal more memorable was one of the other customers had brought in a cut of Hokkaido wagyu beef that the chef sliced and lightly grilled which melted in my mouth instantly. Can't recommend this place enough and would gladly return again. Complements to the waiter who did his best to translate Japanese to English and offered exceptionable service. Price per person: ¥2,000–3,000 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

If you're tired of Omakase sushi, why not switch it up and try a Japanese full-course Omakase instead? If you're looking for recommendations, I wholeheartedly suggest this restaurant! I discovered this restaurant two years ago, and since then, it’s become a place I visit almost every month. The restaurant is called Sumitemae Uso. The name itself reflects the essence of the experience: Sumitemae refers to charcoal grilling, a technique that enhances the aroma and texture of ingredients before they are crafted into culinary masterpieces. Uso refers to the bullfinch bird, which is also the restaurant's charming logo. This restaurant takes seasonal ingredients to heart, meticulously selecting fresh produce, fish, and meats for their menu. As an Omakase establishment, part of the excitement lies in the surprises—there’s always something new to enjoy with each visit. The 10-course menu starts with an appetizing soup, followed by a progression of dishes that increase in intensity—from light starters to hearty meat-focused courses—before ending with their signature soba noodles. In winter, you'll be treated to warm soba, perfect for the chill. In summer, they serve chilled soba to refresh and delight. The meats here are unforgettable. I’ve had everything from premium beef sourced from various regions, succulent pork so tender I couldn’t believe it was pork, and duck so flavorful it lingers in my memory. One standout was turtle meat, which was expertly prepared to the point that guilt turned into indulgence. Even wild boar had an aromatic richness that was truly special. But the crown jewel? Bear meat. Initially, I was skeptical, imagining it would be tough and gamey, but the chef’s skill transformed it into a tender, flavorful dish I’ll never forget. Even the vegetables are extraordinary—whether cultivated or foraged from the mountains, every bite is a testament to the chef’s dedication to quality. Every sauce is house-made, prepared with precision and creativity, offering flavors unlike anything I’ve tasted before. The soba noodles that conclude the meal? Simply irresistible. Every time I visit, I’m tempted to ask for a second serving! The counter-seating arrangement allows you to watch the chef in action an immersive and mesmerizing experience. As for beverages, they offer draft beer, sake, and lemon sour. You can even ask the staff to recommend a sake pairing for your meal, elevating the experience to new heights. The deliciousness of this restaurant is hard to put into words. What I can guarantee, however, is that every Yen spent here is worth it. For an unforgettable culinary journey, Sumitemae Uso is an absolute must-visit! Meal type: Dinner Price per person: ¥10,000+ Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
