My experience at Van der Valk Hotel Utrecht unfortunately started very poorly upon arrival. In the parking garage, I immediately ended up with a flat tire caused by a damaged concrete wheel stop. It appeared to have been manually cut in half, as if with a saw, leaving only part of the original structure intact. One side still had the proper rounded shape of a wheel stop, which would not damage a tire. However, the other side was completely straight and sharp, effectively acting like a cutting edge. This resulted in my tire being severely damaged. This is not a minor inconvenience, but a serious safety issue. When I reported this, including photos as evidence, it was completely downplayed. There was little to no willingness to take responsibility or even consider a reasonable gesture. Not even something basic like waiving the parking fee was offered. I was still required to pay, despite the fact that my car had to be towed shortly after which took away at least 3 hours of my stay for calling towing services, getting a replacement transportation and other arrangements as the tire could not be repaired immediately but over the weekend. The room itself seemed acceptable at first glance, but several issues quickly became apparent: - A strange odor - A very unintuitive and poorly functioning lighting system - Lights that did not respond or were incorrectly labeled Service during dinner was also disappointing. Staff were visibly chatting among themselves instead of attending to guests. To order drinks, we had to actively try to get their attention, which is not what you expect in a four-star hotel. Additionally, some staff were walking around chewing gum, which comes across as unprofessional. The general maintenance and finish of the room were also below standard, especially once you start noticing the details during your stay. This hotel easily ranks among the top three worst Van der Valk experiences I’ve had, particularly because other hotels within the same chain perform significantly better in all areas. We will not be returning here for a private stay. Service: 2
