We popped in for the happy hour deal and had a lovely time. The hostess was so very sweet and took us right to the bar. We were greeted by Anthony and Eric who were both incredibly knowledgeable and made one of the best martinis I’ve ever had!! The HH deal is hard to beat $30 for a 6oz steak, fries and a martini (with gin or vodka)! Runs from 3:30-5:30p 7 days a week and is truly such a good deal! We also had the beef tartar for $10! We are so eager to go back for a nice dinner to celebrate soon! Price per person: $30–40 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Downtown Austin has no shortage of places to eat, but VanHorn’s on West 2nd Street is something different. The kind of place that feels like it has always been there, like it earned its spot on the block rather than just leasing it. The room is intimate in all the right ways. It has that old-school character that newer restaurants spend millions trying to fake and never quite pull off. Banquette seating, warm lighting, a pace that feels unhurried. You settle in and the city noise outside just sort of fades. The menu is a proper steakhouse lineup, anchored by hand-carved cuts that are cooked with real intention. Whether you go for a porterhouse or graze through the starters, everything lands with confidence. This is food that knows what it is and delivers without apology. The drink program is worth your full attention. The cocktails are serious without being pretentious, and the bar clearly has people behind it who care. What sets VanHorn’s apart, though, is the staff. Friendly, attentive, and present without hovering. They read the room well and make you feel like a regular even on a first visit. If you want a steakhouse experience in Austin that feels genuine rather than engineered, VanHorn’s is the one to book. Get a reservation, especially on weekends. Joined some girlfriends for dinner on Vanhorn's lovely patio (in November, what a treat). we were prompt greeted by Tony and. He was helpful throughout the evening with attentive service. They were out of a few wines, but he was diligent in finding a Pinot Noir for us to drink. I wasn't in the mood for steak since I had a large lunch earlier in the day. I decided to try the vegetarian entree which was trumpet mushrooms on a fontina fondue. So creamy and delicious! The mushrooms were very meaty and satisfying. My friend tried the burger which she said was very rich and tasty. My other friend tried the miso fish and enjoyed her portion as well. On the pricier side, but to be expected for a Downtown steakhouse. I look forward to visiting again and trying more of the menu. Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4 Vegetarian options: Trumpet mushroom entree
