I live in Merimbula and Vicolo has been one of my top two South Coast restaurants for the past 10 years and even beat any Italian restaurant in Canberra, through two owners and multiple chefs. However, on our visit last night 29th June myself and my wife were very disappointed to taste that the new chef has a salt addiction. The Mixed Entre Platter looked fine and some ingredients such as the olive tampanade has always been slightly salty and this is fine, but on this visit excessive salt was also added to the Frito Misto for the first time in our experience. The Duck Ragu was so salty as to mask any other flavour and was almost inedible. Even the Mixed Desert Platter did not escape, and rock salt was mixed with the peanut component, although luckily we could eat around this. The rest of the desert platter was excellent, including the mildly salted chocolate slice which has always been part of this platter and the addition of edible flowers was a welcome addition which I cannot remember being included in the past. Correct seasoning is 101 in chef school and this chef would not pass if he served his currently seasoned food! Hopefully this chef is a winter replacement or the owners will come to their senses. For $95 for a meal for two this food is no longer up to standard.

Friday night dinner. Pre booked table so not disappointed as this is a very popular local restaurant.
Not a big menu but has enough to please. A few daily specials to compliment which are usually well worth it.
Good wines. Good service.

Great dining experience at Vicolo. The anti pasto platter for 2 was delicious and big, care has to be taken not to fill up too much before the main.
The mains were fresh and delicious also.
Great service to top it off makes Vicolo definitely worth a visit.
