Ended up here after the actually rather tough 20-mile-hike from Dufton via Cross Fell and really couldn't have chosen a better place to recover, unwind and enjoy a bit of small-town life - Alston was where I spent my rest day during the Pennine Way hike, and it really is a lovely and very likeable little town. The Victoria Inn is a classic Main Street pub with some rooms upstairs; when I stayed, the new owners/managers, Kamila and Paul from London, had been in charge for 6 months (I believe). I was very, very happy here - my room was simple but very clean, cozy and comfortable, the pub is a very sociable and welcoming place with great stuff on tap, and the food - I had the chili burger on my first evening - was nothing less than fantastic; I haven't had such a great burger in a a long time. Best of all, though, was the warm welcome I got here - not only do Kamila and Paul do an excellent job and are true professionals, but they're also great and interesting company. I enjoyed my stay a lot, wish I could have stayed longer and can only recommend the place very warmly - hope I'll be back someday!

Nice burgers, cheesy chips with bacon bits are a must. Music is great along with the atmosphere. Price per person: £10–20 Service: 5 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
